- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2–3 drops food coloring (optional for pastel colors)
- 1 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 1 tsp cotton candy flavoring (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk (for frosting)
- Cotton candy (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream together butter and sugar in a separate bowl. Add eggs, vanilla, and cotton candy flavoring.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture. Add food coloring.
- Spoon batter into cupcake liners and bake for 18-20 minutes. Let cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, cotton candy flavoring, and heavy cream until smooth.
- Pipe frosting onto cooled cupcakes and top with cotton candy.
Notes
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Frost cupcakes just before serving to keep the cotton candy fresh.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute the flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
- Add sprinkles or edible glitter for extra fun!
